The memorial service for Betty J. Barber, 80, of Stewartville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at Stewartville United Methodist Church with Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Barber passed away peacefully, her family by her side, on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, at the Stewartville Care Center. Betty Jane Schultz was born April 7, 1939 in Bethany, Minn., to John and Florence (Prudoehl) Schultz. She grew up on the family farm and attended Lewiston High School. Betty married Dennis Chalmer Barber on Nov. 28, 1955. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Lewiston where they had five children. The Barber family moved to Stewartville in 1972. Betty was a homemaker, worked at Lake Center Industries in Stewartville, and at Waters Instruments in Rochester. She discontinued her employment following diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1992. Dennis was a lifelong auto mechanic. Betty moved from Stewartville to Speltz Estates Assisted Living in Lewiston following the death of her husband in 2001. She resided there for 12 years and then moved to the Stewartville Care Center where she has been a resident for six years. Betty was a longtime member of the Stewartville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling and gardening and loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Connie (Bruce) Thompson, Vicky (Robert) Robertson and Steven (Wanda) Barber, all of Stewartville, and Lorelei (Chad) Quandt of Racine; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene (Marlene) Schultz, Daniel (Lorraine) Schultz, Richard (Joanne) Schultz all of Lewiston; two sisters, Judi (John) Randall of Fremont and Dorothy (Dean) Nuszloch of Utica. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, daughter, Sherry (Anthony) Heintz, brothers. John and Roy Schultz, and grandson Dustin Moe. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place today (Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019) from 5-7 p.m. Stewartville United Methodist Church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning.
