William Messinger, 51, former local resident, dies in Arizona
William David Messinger, 51, formerly of Stewartville, passed away June 22, 2019 in Mesa, Ariz.
The son of William A. and Dee Messinger, he had moved to Minnesota when he was 11 years old, living in Rochester and Stewaratville, before moving back to Phoenix, Ariz. He attended Jefferson Elementary School in Rochester, Central Elementary School and Stewartville High School in Stewartville.
After returning to Arizona, he lived with his grandfather, Larry Vernon, working miscellaneous jobs. In 1995, he started working at Houge Printing, which later was purchased by Rohrer Corporation. He was a press operator and could run all the different machines, including die cutter, folder glue machines and was the second shift manager for several years. He continued to work there until his death.
Bill and Angela Flores were married in 1992 in Scottsdale, Ariz. They had two boys, William Justin (BJ) and Nicolas (Nikko). They were later dicorced.
Bill met Cheryl Barnes, his best friend and love. They were together for 23 years. They had several dogs over the years, lastly two pit bulls, Rosie and Missy. He would ride his bike with them for "walks" when it wasn't too hot.
He was estranged from the family for several years, but after hearing that his brother, David, had passed away in 2011, realized he had missed out and made steps to get close to family again. He came to Minnesota for a week or more most years, except when he was going through chemo and radiation for lung and throat cancer and not well enough. He and his "pop" loved to sit out on the deck, drink coffee or pop and visit for hours. He had lots of fun with his sisters, nephews and nieces. He was also able to visit his sister, Christy in Kentucky and meet his nephews and nieces there one summer, too.
He loved to play the guitar and sing, but with his cancer, that wasn't always possible.
He is survived by Cheryl Barnes of Mesa, who he always called his wife; parents, William A. and Dee Messinger of Stewartville; sisters, Christy Arrington of Owensboro, Ken., April (Randy) Woodbury of Ankeny, Iowa, Anette Messinger of Converse, Tex, and Lacy (Casey) Hamilton of Kasson; nephews, Matt Rozenboom, Hunter Beard, Kaden and Colin Woodbury, Liam Southwick, Parker, Isaac and Roman Hamilton, and nieces, Stormie Arrington, Destinee Scholar, Abby Woodbury, Danita and Mikayla Messinger, and Paisley Southwick.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jana Messinger, both sets of grandparents, and his brother, David Messinger.
