Ruth Jeanette Sheldon, 80, of Stewartville, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020 at her home. Ruth was born May 16, 1940 on the farm in Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Selmer and Stella (Tangen) Peterson. She left school after the eighth grade to help out on the farm. In later years she got her G.E.D. and went on to receive a diploma for health unit coordinator. In 1957 she married Daryl A. Wenthold. Together they had five children. They later divorced and in 1982 Ruth married Norvel D. Sheldon of Stewartville, where they continued to make their home. Ruth loved collecting recipes and cooking for her big family. She loved Pomeranians and rescued several over the years. She enjoyed reading, collecting Cardinals and babysitting for her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. It was often joked that she had a baby on her hip wherever she went. Together, Norvel and Ruth enjoyed motorcycle riding and traveling the back roads with their motorcycle group. In later years they loved camping. Ruth loved her family and will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Ruth is survived by her children, Larry (Cindy) Wenthold of Rapid City, South Dakota, LaDonna Dewbery of Rochester, Lisa (Tom) Ress of Byron, and Joseph Wenthold of Stewartville; her four step-children, Kathy (Richard) Larson of Chester, Iowa, Ken Sheldon and Kelly (Mike) Yennie both of Stewartville, and Christopher (Monica) Sheldon of Zumbrota; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two brothers and two sisters of Decorah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norvel, on May 1, 2020, her son, Steven Wenthold, a grandson, Andrew Ress, one brother, and her parents.
