Memorial service for Gary Ellinghuysen Nov. 11 at Bear Creek Lutheran

The memorial service for Gary G. Ellinghuysen,74, a longtime Racine resident will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020 at Bear Creek Lutheran Church in rural Grand Meadow with Rev. Larry Iverson officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Stewartville American Legion Post 164 will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr . Ellinghuysen died on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020 of congestive heart failure at Mayo Clinic Rochester- St. Marys Campus.
Gary Glen Ellinghuysen was born on Jan. 21, 1946 in rural Stewartville to Glen and Jean (Griebenow) Ellinghuysen. He grew up in rural Pleasant Valley Township, attended country school and Stewartville High School. In 1965 Gary enlisted into the US Army serving two years including duty overseas in Vietnam. Following his discharge he returned to Stewartville where he was employed in construction with Stewartville area builders.
He was married in 1965 to Ethel Anderson in Stewartville. They were later divorced. Gary was employed in construction as a member of Laborers International Union Local 405 with Benike Construction, Weis Construction and other Rochester contractors for many years.
Gary was married on March 29, 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Gloria E. Miller. The couple lived in Racine, where they raised their sons and have continued to make their home. He was also employed part-time with 7th Rib Catering in Racine for a number of years. Gloria was a longtime employee of the 7th Rib Restaurant as well. After retiring Gary worked part-time with Spring Valley Sales Barn and Suess Equipment in Racine. Gary was a past member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville and was a member of the Stewartville American Legion for 48 years. Gary was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting with his sons and friends, and was a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He liked going for drives in the country and also enjoyed fishing up north, going to auctions and sales and always had a big vegetable garden. He enjoyed visiting with friends and loved time spent with family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Gloria; two sons, Tom (Jill) of Leroy and Bruce Ellinghuysen (Lori Brogan and daughter Laney) of Grand Meadow; two sisters, Paula (Bill) McDonald of rural Mazeppa and Bonnie Renken of Rochester; a brother, Richard (Becky) Ellinghuysen of Nisswa; three sisters-in-law. Judy (Ken) Lacey of Chatfield, Evelyn Clark of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Dianne Lutzi of Plainview; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gary.
A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 5-7 p.m. today (Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020) at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday afternoon.
