Eugene L. Claussen, 81, of Stewartville, died on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center where he had been a resident for the past week. Eugene Lowell Claussen was born Nov. 3, 1939 in Pipestone, to Sophus and Irene Thill Claussen. He grew up on the family farm in rural Jasper, and attended Jasper High School and worked on the family farm. Eugene was married on May 29, 1960 in Jasper to Faye Campbell. The couple lived in the Jasper area where Gene was employed as farm laborer. They moved to Stewartville in 1972, where Gene was employed at Schoenfelder farms in rural Rochester for a number of years. He also drove truck for over 30 years hauling automobiles. Faye was a homemaker and was a self-employed upholsterer and she did contract work for Howe's Upholstery in Stewartville for a number of years. Gene was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a member of the church choir. He enjoyed deer hunting, watching rodeos and following his grandchildren's sporting and horse and rodeo events. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eugene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Faye; two daughters and two sons, Julie (Shawn) Baker of rural Chatfield, Donna (Allen) Benson of River Falls, Wisconsin, Scott (Rachel) Claussen of Minnesota, and Justin Claussen (Cecilia Moeller) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Joshua (Jesse) Baker, Sarah (Brandon) Nieman, Drew Benson (Brittany Peterson), Logan Claussen (Stephanie Geisler) and Anja Claussen (Matt Peterson); seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sadie, Savanna, Christopher, Aubrey, Blaine and Ensley; a sister, Doreen Ver Does of Preston; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elaine Nielsen and brother, Donovan Claussen. No service or visitation is planned at this time. A Celebration of Life will take place at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville, to be announced later. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
