Shirley J. Morency, 86, of Red Wing, died on Saturday, March 12, 2022 of natural causes at BayView Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Red Wing. Shirley Jean Morency was born on Feb. 9, 1936 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to George and Henrietta (Gould) Hetrick. She grew up in Sioux Falls, moving to Cass Lake after her marriage in 1953 to Ronald Anderson. They were later divorced. Shirley fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse in 1976 and worked until her retirement at the Beltrami Nursing Home in Bemidji. Shirley married John (Jack) Morency on Aug. 3, 1979 in Bemidji. Following their marriage the couple lived in Bemidji before moving to Red Wing in 1991, where they continued to make their home. Jack and Shirley enjoyed traveling in their small RV around the country. Shirley enjoyed decorating her home for holidays and shopping. She was artistic and enjoyed adult coloring books and embroidery. She was an avid reader of mystery novels. Shirley enjoyed having dogs and cats in her life. Shirley is survived by her children, Susan (Marti) Oeltjen and David Anderson; grandchildren, Jeremiah Oeltjen, Jennifer Oeltjen, and Joseph (Nikki) Oeltjen; great-grandchildren, Emili Tebay, Angela Oeltjen, Patience Putzier, Payton Oeltjen, and Wyatt Oeltjen. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 2021; a son, Paul in 1991; a brother, Donald Hetrick; and sisters, Dorothy Miller, Marjorie Davis, Lucille Bucher, Lavonne Elliot and Gertrude Grotjohn.
