Engel promoted to Lieutenant Commander

Jeffrey Engel, a 1981 graduate of Stewartville High School, and son of Raymond and Roselyn Engel formerly of Stewartville, was recently selected for promotion to Lieutenant Commander (O-4) in the Coast Guard Reserve.

Engel is assigned as the Operations Officer for Port Security Unit 313 in Tacoma, Washington and just returned from a seven month deployment to Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. He supervised 70 personnel who provided anti-terrorism and force protection security using 25 foot armed boats and also security ashore for the military Commissions process currently holding trials for detainee terrorists from Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

Engel has served 25 years on both Coast Guard active duty and as a Reservist, has been activated for operation Noble Eagle, Hurricane Katrina recovery operations, and is a member of Stewartville American Legion Post 164. He resides in South Prairie, Washington with his wife Nancy and daughters Anna and Emily and is a Sergeant at the Sumner Washington Police Department.
