Jeffrey Engel, a 1981 graduate of Stewartville High School, and son of Raymond and Roselyn Engel, formerly of Stewartville, was recently selected for promotion to Commander (O5) in the United States Coast Guard Reserve.
He recently completed an assignment as the Operations Officer for Port Security Unit 311 in Long Beach, Calif., where he earned a Coast Guard Commendation Medal. He is now assigned as the Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer at Coast Guard District 13 in Seattle, Wash.
Engel has served 32 years on both Coast Guard active duty and as a Reservist, and has been activated for Operation Noble Eagle, Hurricane Katrina recovery operations, and a deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He is a member of Stewartville American Legion Post 164 and Wilkeson Eagles Aerie 1409. He resides in Carbonado, Wash., with his wife Pamela, and is the Deputy Police Chief at the Sumner Washington Police Department.
