In 2020, Becky Carlson learned many families in the Stewartville School District had needs that had not been met.
That's when she decided to start The Tiger Charge, Inc.
Working with Courtney Fakler and Joelle McDonald, school social workers, the organization provides funding and supplies for students and families as needs arise.
Here's how it works: School staff identify a need and send a request to The Tiger Charge, Inc.
"The request is generally fulfilled within the day," said Jen Nolander, a board member of the organization. "One hundred percent of the funds raised through the community go toward fulfilling these requests."
During the 2021-22 school year, The Tiger Charge, Inc. responded to many requests from families in need of items such as clothing and winter gear, hygiene products, gas and grocery cards, school supplies and snacks, to name a few, Nolander said.
After school staff makes most of the requests, The Tiger Charge takes over from there, freeing up teachers and staff to focus on teaching and helping students...
