On Friday morning, April 29, Nancy Pedersen was working as a substitute teacher when four children holding signs, followed by a group from the Stewartville Area Chamber of Commerce, walked into her classroom at the Central Education Center.
At first, Pedersen didn't know what to think.
"I thought some of the kids were getting their coats on and getting ready to go home," she said. "Then some kids came in, and they weren't in order. Then when the Chamber came in, I wondered what it was about. I was very confused when I saw the signs."
But it didn't take long for Pedersen to figure things out. After the children were put in proper order, their signs, with green messages on white pieces of paper, said, "Mrs. Nancy...would you be...the grand marshal...for the Summerfest Parade 2022?"
Pedersen said she's honored by the Chamber's request.
"I was very surprised," she said. "I wasn't expecting that at all. That's really a nice thing to do. I admit, I got a little choked up..."
