The Tri-City Tornadoes captured third place in the 21-team, 12U Kentucky Youth World Series at the Elizabethtown Sports Park on July 21-25. After going 0-2-1 in pool play, the local nine made a run in the double-elimination bracket play, claiming third place overall by playing eight bracket games (more than any team in the tournament), with five of those bracket games occurring in a 18-hour period. Mat Matejka represented the local nine well, winning the tourney's Home Run Derby. He hit seven HRs in the derby, beating out 22 batters representing other teams. Matejka continued his long-ball hitting by cranking out five home runs in the eight bracket-play games. Gavin Iverson and Aaden Burzette also blasted two home runs each while at the World Series. Mat Matejka, Gavin Iverson and Carson Goodman were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Tri-City's record stands at 32-12-1 in 45 games played.
