6/2/2017 2:54:00 PM Funeral for Maxine Bell June 6 in Pleasant Grove
The funeral service for Maxine Bell, 90, a longtime Stewartville area resident will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ in Pleasant Grove, with Rev. Lance Lowrenz officiating. Burial will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
Mrs. Bell died on Thursday, June 1, 2017, of natural causes at Samaritan Bethany Home in Rochester, where she had been a resident for the past 14 months.
Maxine Erichsen was born June 27, 1926 in Stewartville to John and Ina (Barrows) Erichsen. She grew up in Stewartville and attended school there, graduating from Stewartville High School in 1944.
Maxine was married on Aug. 20, 1944 at the Stewartville United Methodist Church to Orrin H. "Pete" Bell. Following their marriage the couple started their family and lived in Stewartville for many years. Maxine was a homemaker and longtime crossing guard for the city and school district in Stewartville. Pete was employed at Erichsen Produce, Rochester Dairy (as a home delivery milkman in Stewartville) and was also employed with Ralston Purina Co. until his retirement. Pete and Maxine moved their family to a hobby farm in rural Racine, where they lived for a number of years before moving to the Stewartvilla Apartments. Mr. Bell died on August 21, 2005.
Maxine was a past member of the United Methodist Church in Stewartville and for the past number of years had been attending services at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading mysteries, word search puzzles, following the Twins and Viking and always enjoyed the family dogs. Maxine loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and always told them, "Now you be careful going home."
Maxine is survived by her two sons, Anthony "Tony" (Ruby) of Grand Meadow and Joel (Brenda) of Stewartville; three grandchildren, Cory (Jackie) Bell, Amy Bell (Jess Trusty) and Eric (Ashley) Bell; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Bell (Courtney Smith), Alex, Jacob and Caleb Bell; a sister-in-law, Delores Erichsen of Spring Valley and longtime friend, Toni Pikula of Virginia, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; two sons, Steven and Robin; her parents; a sister, Bernice Meek and two brothers, Owen "Bud" Erichsen and Ervin Erichsen.
A time of visitation for friends and family will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning.
