1/5/2022 7:50:00 AM Duane Long, formerly of Stewartville, dies following lengthy illness
Duane M. Long 82, formerly of Stewartville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021 in Greensboro, North Carolina after a lengthy illness.
Duane was born Dec. 20, 1939 in Chatfield, to Joe and Helen (Treat) Finley Long. He graduated from Stewartville High School and then Duane worked for the rail road for a few years. He moved back to Stewartville where he co-managed the Grand Meadow Restaurant with his parents. He also helped with Long's Café in Stewartville and the Racine dancehall.
Eventually Duane, his wife and son moved to Greensboro where he worked for the 3M Company, DIT Integrated Business Solutions and the former Cavins as an expert service engineer for 40 years until his health got bad. In his spare time Duane was devoted to coaching boy's basketball, football and baseball with his church and the YMCA. He loved to fish, enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.
Duane was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine (Long) Bell, his parent's, Joe and Helen (Treat) (Finley) Long, his grandson, Koehn Long and his son, Michael Long.
He leaves behind a large loving family. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Long of Greensboro; one stepdaughter and four stepsons all of North Carolina; one granddaughter of Colorado; his sister, Debra (Phil) (Long) Suess of Grand Meadow; nieces, Colleen Ulwelling (John)of Rochester, Kerri Waugh (Sean) of Wellton, Arizona, Kelly (Shane) Hayden of Hayfield; and nephews, Kevin (Bobbi) Bell, Kent Bell and Rodney Bell all of Rochester, Chris Suess of Adams, Brad (Amanda) Suess of Ogema, Wisconsin, and Bryce Suess of Grand Meadow; along with a large extended family.
A small service was held for him on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Greensboro.
