The memorial service for Richard Dean Langerud, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Reverend Janet White will officiate.
Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Freeborn County Veteran's Organizations.
Richard died on Thursday Feb. 25, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea. He was 90.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1926, in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Edith (Halverson) Langerud.
Richard proudly served our country in the US Army from April of 1945 until his honorable discharge in December of 1946.
Richard was united in marriage to Mavis E. Erickson on June 24, 1950 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Cindy, Douglas, Michael and Patty.
Richard and Mavis had made their home in Albert Lea where Richard worked for Streater for several years. In 1972, they moved to Stewartville and Richard served as retail manager for St. Paul Clothiers in Rochester for more than 29 years before retiring. Following his retirement Dick and Mavis fulfilled a lifetime dream of traveling across the United States. Mavis died in 1995, shortly after their 45th wedding anniversary. Richard was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Church, the Elks Club, Eagles Club,
American Legion and Singles and Solos of Mower County. Throughout his life he had enjoyed traveling, playing cards, dancing, woodworking, gardening and sports. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and friend and always enjoyed being surrounded by family.
He will be lovingly missed by his children, Cindy and her husband John Whited of Rochester, Douglas Langerud of Austin Tex., and Patty and her husband Scott Huber of Austin, Tex.; grandchildren, Dane Schad and his wife Jordan of Chaska, Lindsay and Grant Huber of Austin, Tex.; sisters, Lorraine Willmert of Austin, Kathy Bennett of Albert Lea, and brother Ray Langerud and his wife Joyce of Albert Lea, and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mavis, son Michael D. Langerud in infancy, special friend Shirley Gold, brothers-in-law Richard Willmert and Merrill Bennett.
Richard will be remembered for his outgoing personality, warm smile and gentle spirit.
Friends may visit with family from -7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29 at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, or one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday morning.
