Sixth graders at Stewartville Middle School are learning to think beyond themselves by serving others. Thanks to Dawn Miller's health curriculum, the students have completed more than 410 service learning hours in 2 1/2 months. Sharon Prunty, Middle School principal, in a recent report to the School Board, said the students have volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, for the Lansing Project, a homeless shelter, at the Dorothy Day House, at Petco, where they helped pets get adopted, and at Paws & Claws, where they donated homemade treats, chew toys, blankets and beds...
