The Slightam Family, owner of Jimmyís Salad Dressings & Dips, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at Rochester Area Economic Development, Inc.ís (RAEDIís) eighth annual R.A.V.E. (Recognizing Awarding Valuing Entrepreneurs) event on Wednesday, Nov. 17. From left above are John Wade, RAEDIís president, and the Slightams, including Sue,Tom, Sam and Griffin.
It was the late 1950s and early 1960s when Jim Slightam, owner of the Fish House Restaurant in Stewartville, started experimenting with recipes for different salad dressings. The Fish House's customers liked the dressings so much they asked Slightam to put them in jars so they could take some home... As he got started, Tom knew he had to rename the product. "The Fish House moniker was misunderstood once I was away from Stewartville and the local area," he said. "People asked if there was fish in the recipe or if it smelled like a fish house. In honor of my dad's recipes, we renamed the business 'Jimmy's' after him..." Thanks to that growth and its lengthy service to Stewartville and areas beyond, the Slightam family received the Lifetime Achievement Award at Rochester Area Economic Development, Inc.'s (RAEDI's) eighth annual R.A.V.E. (Recognizing Awarding Valuing Entrepreneurs) event at St. Mary's University in Rochester on Wednesday, Nov. 17... For more on this story pick up your copy of the Nov. 23 Stewartville STAR.
