Stewartville residents who went to the polls at the Civic Center on Tuesday, Nov. 3 followed the state’s COVID-19 guidelines by wearing masks and staying six feet apart. Cheryl Roeder, city clerk, estimated that, including those who voted at the Civic Center and others who sent in absentee ballots, about 87 percent of the city of Stewartville’s 3,935 eligible voters cast their ballots.

Jimmie-John King was re-elected to a fourth term as Stewartville's mayor last week, defeating challenger Gary Johnson by a decisive margin.
King finished with 2,642 votes, or 78.2 percent, to 733 votes, or 21.8 percent for Johnson.
King was pleased with the outcome and the turnout.
"I'm happy so many of our good citizens came out and voted," he said. "They seem to be happy with the work we've been doing. I'm happy, humbled and honored I was re-elected."
King specifically thanked all the residents who voted for him.
"I couldn't have done it without them," he said. "They're the backbone of our community. I'm happy they came out and voted and felt I was worthy of four more years."
Speaking of his goals for the coming four years, he said he'd like to see Stewartville continue to grow.
"I'd like to continue the growth we've seen on the business side," he said. "With the residential, there are developers who are willing to do business with us..."
