Turned down about 3 1/2 years ago, a Byron developer has once again applied to mine sand and gravel in High Forest Township just east of Stewartville.
Jessup DeCook hopes to obtain a permit that would allow him to mine 36 acres of a 154-acre parcel of township land near the Stewartville city limits.
Bill Schimmel Jr., city administrator, said in an e-mail last week that DeCook is seeking an interim-use permit for the mining operation. To get that permit, he must receive an extension of a 90-day permit he received to help the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) rebuild the intersection of Interstate 90 and Hwy. 63 just north of Stewartville, Schimmel said...
