Gary Johnson is in the running for mayor of Stewartville.
Johnson, a Stewartville business owner for 33 years, filed an affidavit of candidacy to seek the mayoral seat last week.
Johnson will challenge incumbent Jimmie-John King, who has served as the city's mayor since January 2009 and ran unopposed in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
Johnson formally announced his decision to run in an Aug. 12 email to the Stewartville STAR and other area media outlets.
In the email, Johnson said Stewartville has been "marking time" under King's leadership for the past 12 years...
