Pine Island school officials have turned down a proposal to build a new Zumbro Education District (ZED) facility for students with special needs.
At a recent meeting, the Pine Island School Board voted against the construction of the 61,000 square-foot building, proposed to be built on 3.16 acres of land in Kasson.
The ZED Governing Board, which includes representatives from seven area school boards, has proposed the new facility. The board includes members from school boards in Stewartville, Blooming Prairie, Byron, Hayfield, Kasson-Mantorville, Pine Island and Triton.
For the proposal to pass, the individual school boards from all seven ZED school districts must approve it. The Stewartville School Board, at a meeting last August, indicated its support for the new building...
