Coaches lament loss of spring sports season
When Gov. Walz announced on Thursday, April 23 that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic would limit Minnesota’s schools to distance learning for the rest of the 2019-20 school year, the coaches of Stewartville High School’s seven spring sports knew that the senior athletes under their guidance would be deprived of their final season of competition. Not long ago, the coaches of Stewartville High School's seven spring sports were looking forward to a season of promise.
But when Gov. Walz announced on Thursday, April 23 that the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak would limit the state's schools to distance learning for the rest of the 2019-20 school year, those same coaches were saddened that the virus had shut the door on spring sports as well.
Coaches Mark Schmitz, Dave Honsey, Curt Hughes, Dawn Miller, Todd Lechtenberg, Aaron Meyer and Kelly Manley have all lamented a lost season, and feel especially bad for their teams' seniors, who'll witness the spring of 2020 pass without participating in the sports they love...
