Students who feel excluded or belittled may soon have a safe place to go at Stewartville High School.
The Appreciate You Alliance will be a support system for students who need to share their stories, Patrick Breen, principal of Stewartville High School, told the School Board last week.
The Alliance will encourage students facing difficult struggles to meet with other students to talk about their trials, Breen indicated.
"The school year lasts nine months," he said. "At the most, (the Alliance) would meet nine times per year...We want to respond according to students' needs."
Breen said he's had heavy conversations in his office with students as young as eighth graders and as old as high school seniors...
