Celebration of Life for Terry Burnes Aug. 1 at Kasson Legion

Terrance Dean Burnes died peacefully July 5, 2020 at Kootonai Hospital in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
He was born April 19, 1936 in Sioux City, Iowa to John Walter Burnes and Evelyn Nora (Roeder) Burnes. He lived in Tracy and Kasson, graduating from Kasson High School in 1954. Terry enlisted in the U. S. Navy following graduation, attending radar and electronic countermeasure school at Treasure Island, San Francisco, California. He boarded the USS Cavalier APA 37 attaining the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class as radarman and part of the Combat Information Center (CIC). Terry was awarded a commendation from the commanding officer for his work on board the Cavalier during "Operation Strongback" off the coast of Korea and the Philippine Islands in April 1957. Departing the U. S. Navy in August 1958, Terry attended junior college for two years while employed at IBM in Rochester. Terry began IBM as a machine accountant and then became a programmer with development of the second generation computers. Terry left management in Rochester in 1978, moving to San Jose, California, where he became the information and data security manager for the San Jose Development Laboratory. In 1987 his assignment took him to Hong King as a SEAR (South East Asia Region) data and business security manager. Terry worked with numerous countries with IBM that reported to him: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Shir Lanka and Bangladesh.
Terry married Remedios (Palattao) Burnes while living in Hong Kong in 1986. Terry retired early upon completion of his assignment with SEAR Headquarters in 1987. After retiring from IBM, he started his own computer business known as MBII (MicroBur Int. Inc.)
Terry would desire most to be remembered for his pride and love for all his family. He has six children, Bryan and wife, Cindy Lou of Washington; Cynthia of Stewartville; Gregory; Jeffrey; Sheryl and husband, Mitch; and Nora, all of Washington; his 12 grandchildren, Kyle, Kyra, Joshua, Lauren, Kally, Chelsea, Nathan, Megan, Trevor, Tyler, Aislinn and Garrett; four great-grandchildren, Cheyne, Colby, Blaine and Zaeydon; three brothers, Eugene (deceased) and wife, Doris; Robert and wife, Ruth (deceased); and Ronald and wife, Bonnie.
A Celebration of Life for Terry will be held at the Kasson American Legion Post 333 at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020.
