Lynn (Buddy) W. Grier Sr., 78, of Orlando, Florida, died on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Rochester-St. Marys Campus, from complications of a lengthy illness with cancer.
Lynn Warren Grier was born on June 27, 1942 in Orlando, to Rufus and Vada (Harbin) Grier. He grew up in Orlando and graduated from Lyman High School. He attended The Citadel which led to his service in the National Guard. After service, he graduated from Florida Southern College where he earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting.
Buddy was married on June 30, 1967 in Winter Park, Florida to Linda Ann Wilborn. They lived in Orlando before moving to Winter Park, where they reared their children, Lynn Grier, Jr. and Betty (Grier) Salerno. Buddy was employed at Martin Marietta, eventually named Lockheed Martin, as an accountant for 40 years until his retirement in 2011. Linda was a homemaker and substitute teacher in the Orange County School District.
Buddy was a longtime active member at Eastland Baptist Church in Orlando, where both he and Linda volunteered with the Central Florida Children's Home and Florida's Family Policy Council. They enjoyed following their children and grandchildren's school and sporting activities. Family meant everything to Buddy.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda; his son, Lynn (Regina) Grier Jr. of Orlando, and his daughter, Betty (Matt) Salerno of rural Rochester; 10 grandchildren, Isabelle (Travis) Suldovski, Warren "Alex" Grier, Jillian Grier, Janie Grier, James (Kelsie) Salerno, Matthew (Nicole) Salerno, Chase Salerno, Nolan Salerno, Joanna Salerno and Taylor Salerno; four great-grandchildren, Madeline, Eleanor, Kyle and Clare; two brothers-in-law, James Dike and Glen Taylor both Orlando; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, David, his parents, Rufus and Vada, and sisters, Rose Dike and Marsha Taylor.
A memorial service will take place at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Moore officiating. A Celebration of Life will take place at Eastland Baptist Church in Orlando, with a date and time to be determined..
