1/6/2022 10:08:00 AM Funeral service for Betty Jo Marshall to be held Jan. 8 at Stewartville UMC
The funeral service for Betty Jo Marshall, 90 , of Hines, formerly of High Forest, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 at the Stewartaville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bridget Sheely officiating. Burial and a committal service will follow in High Forest Cemetery.
Mrs. Marshall died on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, of natural causes at her daughter's home in Hines.
Betty Jo Collins was born on Jan. 5, 1931 in Rochester to Delmar and Avis (Smith) Collins. She grew up on the family farm in Pleasant Grove Township, attended rural schools and Stewartville High School where she was a majorette with the band, graduating in 1948. She was voted Olmsted County Dairy Queen two years in a row.
Betty was married on Sept. 18, 1948 at the Stewartville United Methodist Church to Roy A. Marshall. The couple lived on the Marshall family farm for a number of years, farming and raising their family. In 1971, Betty moved to northern Minnesota to the Ten Strike Lake area where she and Roy bought the Big Pine Resort, which she managed until its sale in 1976. She then attended Thief River Falls Vocational-Technical College earning a two year associates degree as a beautician, graduating in 1980. She was a hairdresser for many years and created and sold jewelery as well until her retirement. Roy was employed for over 20 years with the city of Stewartville as a maintanence worker and following his retirement continued to operate a mower part-time for many years for the city. Mr. Marshall died on Feb. 17, 2014. Betty was a past member of the Stewartville United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins, creating jewelry, traveling, going to craft shows and loved animals especially kittys. She enjoyed time spent with all of her family.
Betty is survived by two daughters and one son, Bruce of Colville, Washington, and Cynthia Grundmeier and Debra Marshall (Doug Erickson) both of Hines; daughter-in-law, Jody Marshall of High Forest; four grandchildren, Collin (Melissa) Marshall, Thomas Marshall, Sarah Marshall (Chris Martin) and Kate Marshall; and three great-grandchildren, Dominic, Audra and River.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her two sons Thomas Marshall and Daniel Marshall, her parents, and brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Joyce Collins.
A time of visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning.
